For a first leg the atmosphere was unreal.

The funniest thing was I don't think the ref gave any of Antonio's appeals but also when the ball was clearly controlled by his arm didn't give that either. The ref was making the entire evening up as it went along. In some ways I would say not giving fouls for niggly aggressive defending might be a really great thing but missing a blatant hand ball just made me think he didn't have the tools.

Moyes paid AZ far too much respect and should've gone for the jugular for 90 minutes, we are probably the worst team in the top flight for knowing when to press and AZ did their homework on us.

Thought the supporters were excellent last night and helped the team get back into the game, one of the best atmospheres at the bowl, although I accept there's not that many to compare it with.

Rest the team for Sunday and then smash AZ on Thursday

I really hate seeing Antonio flop more recently.

First and foremost because that's not what I watch football for.

Second though, he is really bad at it compared to many of these European players.

I hate seeing any player hitting the deck for no reason. And even more so when it's one of our own doing it . 10 minutes in I said to my mate who I was watching it with that Antonio was shattered and was going down way too easy because of it . He cannot play Sunday surely Moyes can see it .

Yup - Antonio constantly throwing himself to the floor at any touch was nonsense.

Moyes in his interview afterwards basically said they were expecting the ref to blow for absolutely anything and at times he did though usually against us.

As soon as we realised the ref wasn't giving fouls for dives we should have stopped diving.

Antonio does get fouled a lot in the PL and gets nothing but last night he was clearly deliberatey throwing himself down with really minimal contact.

Benrahma was on fire on the ball but his final decision making and execution remains woeful. If he had a final ball/shot he'd be world class but then if he was that he wouldn't be playing for us.

If you have 30yds between the front 3, who are pressing, and our midfield, because Moyes has told them to defend at all costs and just be happy to 'stay in the game' wtf do you expect?

I see no reason whatsoever to retain Moyes after the season finishes.

As others have said, Antonio does get fouled some of the time, but he also backs in and then throws himself to the ground with such a lack of subtlety that refs just become reluctant to give genuine fouls when they occur. Thought he was poor last night. Wanted him replaced before he scored so what do I know?

Not a Benrahma fan but he was without doubt our best player last night although I agree with Moyes that he missed a good chance at 2-1.

Areola should have done better on the goal and Aguerd looked less than secure on a few occasions

My son got whacked by a Dutch supporter on the way back to the station, police did fuck all. I tried to chase after them but they were too busy trying to arrest me, c…s.

Funny you should say that. With the refs antics last night we did wonder if UEFA had had a word with him!

West Ham vs fiorentina would fill Wembley

Basel vs Alkmaar perfect for the tiny ground

One other thing- only one yellow card last night, which is relatively good news.

Unfortunately it was Paqueta, who now has got to be careful next week so as not to miss a prospective final.

Scorch - Apparently that rule has been changed and Paq Man is ok. He will be ok for the final, even if he does pick up a yellow next week. Pick up a red though and he's fucked.

It’s going to be carnage in a small stadium

Uefa must be worried if we get through

The ref was dreadful but it took us about 70 mins to realise he wasn’t actually giving any fouls for either team. We should have stayed on our feet more.

Yeah, Pacqueta was stupid to get the yellow. His foul didn't really warrant it but having twice confronted the ref and got in his face it was obvious he'd card him as soon as he had the slightest opportunity.

It will impact him a lot over there

..... Also we do have some real special types supporting us. At half time heard one bloke call the ref a "Yid" for some reason?
There was almost a fight where I was sitting as one bloke kept telling those standing to sit down and then asked the stewards to make them sit down.
There was similar aggro where my cousin was sitting too.

Apart from the goal thought Antonio was all the place last night. Couldn't control the ball l, kept falling over and charging bull like through their defence without control of the ball or his body.

Micky scored a goal last night and that's what you want from your striker.
As far as him going to ground. I guinely believe he's mostly being fouled so if the refs don't give the fouls then there should be a plan B.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v AZ Alkmaar - Official Match Thread
I thought the ref was poor at times but generally ok - they kept fouling us and they were niggly, lots of pushes in the back when we looked to get on the ball - they were physical without being dirty but the ref didn't pick up on it, which in Europe is a bit odd these days - I think we also didn't react well to it and should really have started putting ourselves about more and being a bit tougher when challenged - which I think we did in the second half. The timewasting ended up favouring us in the end so hopefully in the second leg as they need to score we won't see that again...

Fifth.
Agree with most of that.
I was screaming at Antonio to stay up and not keep falling over, the ref was wise to this and correctly gave him nothing.
I disagree thought that Antonio doesn't know where he is going with the ball, his goal against Gent is one example.
I feel Zouma and Aguerd were to deep. But In the 2nd half both bombed forward on a couple of occasions. Aguerd especially showed his skill. We do miss Dawson at set pieces.
Ogbonna was he suspended or was that earlier ?

By the way I do recall I got the score right.
Pity I didn't put a bet on it
